The final plan is to leave Thursday after a half day at work and stay at Rio for one night. Leaving this early was a last minute decision and Paris is either booked or very expensive for the extra night. We play our first tournament Friday afternoon at Binions.
We're going to stay at Paris again, that's pretty well written in stone now. We've also already got a "dinner and show" package for Love (Cirque du Soliel at Mirage).
We really like Paris, it's a decent location but far enough away from the tournaments we'll be playing in that it will make us walk a little more than some other places. That's a good thing... Plus, for those nights we're playing well past midnight and get hungry, we really like the 24 hr cafe at Paris.
The tournament plan is now solid. I've decided I can't go out there and not play in the WSOP. Always subject to change, but:
Friday$200 PLO8 at Binions (Joann and myself)
SaturdayNo poker, date night!
Sunday
$550 NLH Deep Stack at Venetian
or
$550 PLO8/b Deep Stack at Venetian
Monday$340 NLH Deep Stack at Venetian
TuesdayDay off, can't play in a two-day tournament because...
Wednesday
$1500 WSOP Event #30 NLH
or
$1500 WSOP Event #31 L H.O.R.S.E.
Thursday$330 NLH Mega-Stack at Caesars
Friday
$500 L H.O.R.S.E. at Binions*
or
$550 NLH Deep Stack at Venetian
And...maybe...if I have a big cash along the way...
Saturday$3000 WSOP Event #37 L H.O.R.S.E.
* I like the format of Binion's HORSE tourney more and more every time I look at it
I'd much rather play HORSE, but last year's top prize for the WSOP Hold'Em tournament was over $500,000 so that's almost certainly the one I will play in Wednesday. I'm going to go into it very willing to take a coin flip to try and double up. 4500 chips is not exactly a huge starting stack. With the hour long rounds and starting at 25/50 I'll have plenty of time to pick my spot, but still I think this is going to be way too big of a tournament to try and grind my way to the money.
Leon played event #8, same buy-in also on a Wednesday and they had over 2300 people. There is little doubt this will be the biggest field I've ever competed in! I'll do the math for you, 2300 people means you have to amass almost 10.5 million chips to win.
And as far as Mega-Stack vs Deep Stack, I was assuming it would be Mega Stack based on my April trip. Not any more. Mega stack appears to have not even cracked the 200-player mark yet while Deep Stack has gotten close to 1000 players in one and is consistently getting very large fields. Even over 300 for an 8/b tournament! The Thursday exception is because it's a $2100 buyin at Venetian. Besides, I'll be playing day two at the WSOP :)
