About Us

The first poker game for this group was April 2, 2004. Back then it was every four weeks or so and we started out with "Dealer's Choice" nights. When we hit about 6 months we realized that a very large percentage of hands being played were Texas Hold'Em. Not only that, but people wanted to try tournaments. So in October of that year we started playing a tournament first followed by a limit Hold'Em game.
That lasted about another 8 months when it became clear that the group preferred the tournament format to the limit format. So in July of 2005, event #18, we went to the "all-tournament" format. We went with multiple $5 buy-in Hold'em tournaments, usually 3-5 per night. It was also around that time that the host bought a second table because we were regularly getting too many people for one.
It quickly became clear that there was a small group of us who wanted a little higher stakes but a fair number who were happy with the $5 entry, so the idea of a "mid-month" event was born. The idea was to start at $10 at the beginning of the night and increase the stakes as the night went on. It was thought that this would be a smaller group that would be a little more intense. We thought wrong. It turned out that just as many people showed up for mid-month events as for the monthly event and the game went from monthly to bi-weekly.
The next step in our evolution was the start of the Poker Series. Now the first tournament every night is a $20 buyin tournament in which players can get points based on where they finish. A small amount of money is withheld from the prize pool, and at the end of each season there is a free-roll for the players with the highest point totals. Note that 100% of the money collected goes out in prizes either the night of the tournament or at the final freeroll. We play mostly No-Limit Texas Hold'Em but we also play other games including Omaha and 7-Card Stud varieties.
After 10 years the host of the game had to move for employment reasons, and that was the end of the game. But I'm keeping the site alive in the hope that I might get a new game going wherever I happen to be.
