Vegas June 2010 (WSOP)

Day 3 Date Night
Last Updated: 2010-06-13 01:42:18
As promised this will be a brief entry and I'll warn up front there are no poker stories.
Had breakfast at the Paris buffet and I came to a rather disappointing but not surprising conclusion. All of the Harrah's owned hotels are basically serving the same food at their buffets, at least for breakfast. Not that there's a whole lot you can do with breakfast, mind you, but if they weren't serving crepes this buffet would have been exactly the same as what I ate at the Rio and Harrah's in April. So what's the point of the 24 hour buffet if I'm just going to get the same food everywhere?
Well, saving money, that's a huge point I suppose.
So then it was on to the mall on the north side of town we go to once every trip to look in the Disney store and not buy anything for the kids, then not buy anything at a few other stores we poke our heads in before picking up my father's day gift at See's Candy. I'll act surprised next Sunday...
At this point it's an annual ritual.
Stopped in at the Gamblers General Store, didn't buy anything there either. Might go back, I like using the casino cards at my poker game but the last time I bought a gross of cards and couldn't use half of them 'cause they had marks on them so I'm reluctant to make the same mistake again.
We did finally buy a couple of things at some outlet stores near GGS, they had a Spyder outlet (high end ski apparel and for those who don't ski "low end" ski apparel is usually expensive so guess what high end is like). I saw a jacket I really liked ... liked it a lot ... if pete has a good week at the poker thing we'll be going back...
Then back to change and on to our date.
Dinner at Kokomos at Mirage was excellent. Joann and I really never have expensive dinners out, we're always perfectly happy to pick one of our many chain restaurants to go out to dinner so I may not be the best judge, but I honestly can't remember eating a better piece of filet mignon ever. Not exactly the biggest portions but the way I've been eating so far that's not a bad thing either.
We got to dinner half an hour early and had about an hour and a half to kill before the show. Spent our time getting destroyed at the craps table. Ugh. My long winning streak has come to a screeching halt.
Then on to Love. It was a very, very good show and to their credit they did not just pick all the hits to choreograph to. There aren't a lot of obscure Beatles songs, but they managed to work a few in. If you're familiar with Cirque du Soliel shows and you ever get an opportunity to see it I would recommend it but with the caveat that (as I expected) it was much heavier on the dancing and rather light on the "acts". But the bits they did do were impressive as you would expect from Cirque.
And that's it. Went over to Venetian to buy in for tomorrow's (Sunday) tournament. Supposedly the poker room has free WiFi so I may do some updates live from the poker room if thing are going well. Then headed back to the room to type this up and make it a relatively early night.
Wish me luck!
