Vegas June 2013 (WSOP)

Planning

I want to mention to anyone who happens to be reading this that if you've ever played in my poker tournaments or I played in your home game (outside of Jerry's game) that these home games are financing my trip this year. I've kept every last dollar in a dresser drawer until recently and over the years I've built up more than enough to cover the WSOP buyin so I'll also have a good chunk left over to cover most of the rest of the week! Thanks very much to everyone who has played at my home or invited me into yours over the years!!! So having said that...
I think this is a new record, within 24 hrs of the 2013 WSOP schedule coming out I picked out a tournament and Joann and I booked a room.
The trip will be Friday May 31st through Sunday June 9th, I will be playing in:
Event #8, 8-Game Mix
on Sunday June 2nd. It's the same tournament I played in last year, tho they moved it much earlier in the schedule this time. Click Here for a pretty PDF version of the WSOP schedule, or Click Here for the web page version with details and links for formats.
We had booked Paris at first, but then decided to splurge again and stay at Aria. It's an awesome hotel...
The Golden Nugget Grand Poker Series schedule and the Caesar's Mega Stack Series schedule are also up now, and there is something "not hold'em" at one or both I would play in almost every day. Saturday before the WSOP for example GN has a Stud 8/Omaha 8 mix tournament at noon and a 2-7/NLH mix at 5pm (what an odd combination). That would cover half what I will play in WSOP!
I think I see an "itinerary" starting to shape up.
On the non-poker side of things, we do have a short to-do list that is mostly places to eat:
  • Late 24th(!) anniversary dinner with Joann at Smith and Wollensky's on the Friday we arrive
  • Bellagio brunch on Sunday
  • We're going to try and hit the Caesar's new buffet (which apparently now is the most expensive on the strip)
  • Maybe Zarkana (the new Cirque du Soliel show at Aira) but that will be last minute 'cause you never know what will happen with poker
  • Late night meals split between Cafe Vettro at Aria and Planet Dailies in Planet Hollywood (probably more Vettro than PD)
  • We'll surely hit the outlets on the north side of town
  • And almost certainly the Rio buffet as well at some point.
For poker, the default will be Aria because I can play in both the 1:00 and the 7:00 for $250 while most of the "series" type tournaments I would play in at GN and Caesar's will cost me $240 for one tourney. So anything after Sunday is really "if I decide to splurge or don't feel like playing hold'em again..."
  • Saturday - Stud/Omaha 8/b at GN (will definitely play this one as warmup)
  • Sunday - WSOP Event #8, 8-Game Mix
  • Monday - WSOP Day 2 I hope! But otherwise Aria or maybe a 6-handed NLH at Caesar's
  • Tuesday - My first final table! Or GN HORSE @noon or PLO at Caesar's at 4:00
  • Wednesday - Probably a day off. Kidding aside, if I had a big cash in Event 8 I would probably play WSOP Event #13, Stud 8/b this day...but it would have to be a big cash...like final table big...otherwise this probably will be a day off
  • Thursday - 3-stud mix at GN and if I'm feeling really frisky a Heads-Up tournament at Caesars (capped at 64 plyrs)
  • Friday - PLO8 at GN, but also if I was having a really good week (like more than one really big cash outside WSOP good) I could see myself considering Event #15, HORSE
  • Saturday - HORSE again at GN
So all kinds of possibilities to keep me going and not have to play hold'em endlessly.
