Vegas June 2021

Planning: We're on to 2021
Last Updated: 2021-06-04 10:13:56
Nothing is set in stone yet, but it does look like I'm going to play some kind of daily tournament for most of two weeks in June. We originally booked 6/3-20 hoping for a WSOP. Now it looks like we might shorten it only a little, but we're also re-evaluating the dates but I would say for sure a 12-14 day trip that will start first or second week of June depending on what fits best with us work-wise.
With no WSOP I don't really have anything to schedule specific dates around, and I assume there won't be any big tournament series that will involve a lot of non-hold'em. For example I'm sure Venetian will do some kind of Deep Stack, but I don't expect they'll schedule a lot of 8-game mix tournaments. I assume everyone else will hold theirs back until whenever the next live WSOP is.
My guess is I'll play in dailies 8-10 days if we do a full 14 day trip (two of the 14 are travel days).
UPDATE: Couple days after I posted this the WSOP announced there will be a fall WSOP. We may now further shorten this trip if it looks like we might do a long October trip. See my new October trip BLOG for a little more on that
FINAL UPDATE: (for this entry anyway) Joann and I will be in Vegas for two full weeks, the 10th to the 23rd. The overall plan hasn't changed, assuming they still only have 1pm daily tournaments at Aria I expect to play in 8-10 of them depending on what else we end up doing.
FINAL FINAL UPDATE: ARGH! Aria cancelled all daily poker tournaments the 1st through the 15th. However, Hans (who the folks who played in the Colorado Springs game will remember) lives in Vegas now and he turned me on to a tournament series over at Orleans. They're doing twice daily tournaments for varying buyins AND they have non-hold'em. There are a couple of PLO-8 tournaments I can play in and there's a 3-stud tournament I'm now really looking forward to! If I'd seen their schedule before we planned this trip I might have changed to 4th of July weekend to play in their 8-game mix!
=====================February post======================
Almost 3 months after writing up this post it sure doesn't look like it will be June 2021 either. Widespread vaccinations are now unofficially expected in "May or June" 2021, which means pretty much no chance of a June 2021 WSOP. Not a viable one for sure. The May 2021 Italy trip we had in mind back in November 2020 when I wrote this is also clearly not happening.
My thinking right now is WSOP will either be Fall 2021 or not until 2022. Joann and I are tentatively planning to go to Scotland mid-September (maybe mid-August) 2021 if travel is possible, which I think is more likely than not given the expected vaccine timelines in both countries.
Italy is now going to be May of 2022, and I fully expect a WSOP in June of 2022. Assuming Scotland happens if there was a fall poker trip (WSOP or not) I would almost certainly be going myself for a week as opposed to our usual long June trip. Time off work is very difficult for Joann in October and pretty impossible once it hits November and December.
My personal hope is that the WSOP folks show some common sense and just stick with their lame online tournaments for 2021 and get back on schedule in 2022 when life should be normal again. We'll see...

Having cancelled the November trip we're on to what we will for now call "June 2021", tho it could well turn into July.
We are going to book the first two weeks of June and the first two weeks of July on the hopes that there will be a WSOP in 2021.
Personally I think it's 50-50 at best given the vaccine timelines I'm hearing.
That said, there's a small but non-zero chance we will also try to book our postponed 2020 trip to Italy in late May 2021. That will be the determining factor between June and July for Vegas, with the plan being we'd put about a month between the two trips if Italy actually happened. I'm giving Italy a no more than 10% chance of happening.
With no Italy trip, which is the most likely scenario, we'll almost certainly go with the June dates because they're slightly better for me as far as how much vacation time I have to use up.
The June plan means we're driving home on Father's Day if I don't make the final table of the Senior's Event which they always hold on Father's Day weekend.
This text will be modified once I have actual dates to stick in. Like we did last year, we will likely take advantage of M-Life's "Black Friday" event and book all of our 2021 Vegas trips shortly after Thanksgiving.
