Vegas June 2024 (WSOP)

Day 5 - One hand...yup...
Last Updated: 2024-06-10 13:45:58
Been here a few days, took us that long to really get into our June routine. Some Starbucks to start the day, proofread the BLOG I had written the night before (because I had time...), hour or so at the pool, Javier's for lunch.
Joann and I went our separate ways and I timed things perfectly. The line at the WSOP buyin cage was not terrible, but they had all the cages open unlike past years when only half of them were staffed. As such, the line flew and I was bought in about 10 minutes before cards in the air. Nice!
My first WSOP adventure of 2024 ended on literally the first hand I put chips into a pot...
Playing "BigO", which is Omaha 8/b with 5 cards in your hand instead of four. I started out with the button, no playable hands until it came around to my big blind. Playing 100/100 with a 100 big blind ante. I tossed out two black chips for my blind and ante.
I don't fully remember the hand due to the shock and disbelief as I left the room, but basically what happened was I flopped the nut flush draw and second nut low draw. Other person potted it, I quickly called. Nut flush came in on the turn, all the chips went in. He had flopped top set and nut low draw. River gave us both a full house, his better than mine, and his better low also came in.
Done.
Just like that.
Played one hand.
It got even better when I get back to the room only to see Joann walking towards me. She's supposed to be in the room...
First, at all MGM resort hotels you need your room key just to go up the elevator. Joann's key stopped working, so she had to go to the front desk. Then she gets up to the room only to find out that our room hadn't been cleaned yet in spite of the fact that we had called almost four hours earlier for it to be done.
We hung in the lobby, I went up about half hour later, still nobody cleaning our room. I speak to one of the housekeepers and she tells me she's going to take care of it.
Half hour later I go back up again ... still nobody anywhere near our room. I go talk to the front desk, they're going to take care of it right away.
Half hour later we go up to the room ... still nobody in our room, some kind of supervisor up there, housekeeper finally gets told to go take care of our room.
She's real nice, insists we can stay in the room while she works but I don't like someone looking over my shoulder while I work, I can't be watching someone else do their job. She did add a few nice touches to the room when she cleaned it.
We streamed a movie, got takeout from the chinese restaurant in Aria, I streamed some poker and we went to bed. That was our crappy day, hopefully this is the worst day of the trip!
Monday is a day off from poker, which it looks like I could use now! Patrick and Dyan come into town and the four of us are having dinner. So no BLOG Tuesday morning.
Tuesday it'll be NLH/PLO at the WSOP for the second smallest buyin for a live event that can earn you a bracelet, only $600. Too lazy to look but I do believe they've already run a crazy $300 buyin event where they got like 18,000 players over several Day 1s. This will not be that, only one start time but I would be surprised if they didn't get 4-5000 players. We're going to buy in tonight to avoid the madness, but that means we are committed to be there for cards in the air at 10am Tuesday.
