Vegas June 2008 (WSOP)

Day Zero (planning)
Welcome to Pete's June 2008 Vegas blog. As I update this I'm about four days from the trip and wish I was leaving, well, now. As always I intend to update this daily. Generally I'll update it either before I go to bed at night or the next morning after I wake up. Sometimes you may get a two-parter if we have some reason to go back to the room mid-day and I have something worth talking about. But understand our "mid-day" could be dinner time Pacific time because that's how vegas goes for us. Go to bed not long before the sun comes up, sleep 'til lunch.
We leave Saturday June 7th very early in the morning, day one is usually a "24+ hr day" for us. Our itinerary pretty much consists of poker tournaments and buffets. On the buffet side we'll definitely do Bellagio, Luxor and Rio, depending on what we're doing and how timing works out we may hit Mandalay Bay and one or two others that escape me.
I will definitely be playing in WSOP Event 16, $2000 buyin Limit Omaha 8/b. It's scheduled to be a three day event. Play 8 rounds (about 9 hrs with breaks) on day one, down to final 9 on day two and then final table day three. Last year's top prize was almost $250,000. I've already bought in, no backing out now...
If you click on that link, it will bring you to the "structure" of the tournament. From there you can click on "chip counts/results" and look for my name. Last year they had over 500 people in the tournament, I doubt they'll start posting chip counts until a fair number have been eliminated if the crowd is similar but they will post big-name bust-outs right from the beginning so hopefully you'll see my name on the right end of some of those. If it's Monday morning wherever you are and I haven't posted yet, it's probably bad news, but you can look for my name in the chip counts to see if I'm still alive.
It's going to be interesting because earlier in the day is the Ladies only tournament that will be stocked with celebrities and female pros and which last year had about 1200 entries. So on the same day in a city filled with, lets face it, mostly male poker degenerates like myself the "other" WSOP tournament is a tournament that no man can compete in ... they're going to want to do something ... it could be a huge field. Oh, and they're already having problems with tournaments exceeding room capacity and they're not even a week in.
After that, on Tuesday if some idiot sucks out on me and I don't make final table in the WSOP tournament Joann and I will play in $235 buyin Omaha 8/b at Caesars in their new "Mega-Stack" series. 50 min rounds, 5K starting chips (and even bigger, better formats for Hold'Em tournaments)
Then on the following Wednesday Joann and I will play in one of:
$330 buyin, Pot Limit Omaha 8/b at the Golden Nugget
$160 buyin Limit Razz at Binions
(Pete only) WSOP Event 22, $3000 buyin limit HORSE - This is if I either cash (any cash) in event 16 or hit big at Caesars and can afford the buyin.
Who knows...if things go really well, could even stay an extra day or two and play in a HORSE tourney in Venetian's deep stack series, also running in parallel with all the other tournament series...
